Flateland power plant

Flateland power plant is located in Birkenes / Evje and Hornnes municipalities in Agder county.

Work on the construction of Flateland power plant started in the fall of 2021 and the power plant was put into operation in 2024.

The power plant utilizes the fall between Lislevatn and Vågsdalsfjorden in Birkenes municipality.

Intakes and dams have been built on Hovladsåna and on Kjetevatnet. Water from the intake in Hovlandsdalsåna is transferred to Kjetevatn via a 5 km long tunnel. Stream intakes have been established in Mosbekken and Nygårdsbekken, which are taken in at the transfer tunnel. From the intake in Kjetevatn, the water is carried in a 2.2 km long pressure tunnel to the power station at Flateland.

The power plant is installed with a Francis turbine with 9.5 MW output and 7.5 m3 /s suction capacity.

The power station itself is built in the open, immediately outside the pressure tunnel.

The power plant will annually produce 47 GWh of electricity, equivalent to 2,938 households.
